Nadine Smith is an award-winning journalist turned activist who has been fighting for LGBTQ equality for over three decades. She was on the founding board of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Intersex Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO), the world's largest network for LGBTQI young people & students. She co-chaired the 1993 March on Washington the largest LGBTQ march in history. In 1997, she founded Equality Florida and has served as Executive Director since its inception. She has led the charge against the “Don’t Say Gay” and other laws that are erasing the existence of LGBTQ students and families. She currently serves as Chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights’ Florida Advisory Committee. In 2022, she was named to the Time 100 annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
